A preview of the Festival told by Andrea Bajani

THE AUTHOR

 

Andrea Bajani is an Italian author, winner of the 2025 Strega Prize for his novel L'anniversario. Other awards he has received during his career include the 2011 Bagutta Prize for his novel Ogni promessa. In 2008, he won the Super Mondello Prize, the Recanati Prize, and the Brancati Prize for his novel Se consideri le colpe. A writer of novels and short stories, reportage, plays, and translations from French and English, after collaborating with «L'Indice» and the Municipality's Youth Literary Observatory, he became an editorial consultant for the Codice publishing house. His articles have been published in national and international newspapers such as «La Stampa», «l'Unità», «il manifesto», the Sunday supplement of «Il Sole 24 ore», and «Libération».
His works include, Qui non ci sono perdenti (Pequod, 2003), Cordiali saluti (Einaudi, 2005), the story of a young man who has just been hired and finds himself having to write dismissal letters that don't seem like dismissals, and becoming a father to the children of a man who has been fired, who is suffering from cancer and unable to be with them. The reportage Mi spezzo ma non m'impiego (Einaudi, 2006), an investigative journey into the world of new precarious workers. Se consideri le colpe (Einaudi, 2007), Ogni promessa (Einaudi, 2010), La mosca e il funerale (Nottetempo, 2012), Mi riconosci (Feltrinelli 2013), La vita non è in ordine alfabetico (Einaudi 2014), Il libro delle case (Feltrinelli 2021), L'anniversario (Feltrinelli 2025) - Winner of the Strega Giovani Prize and the Strega 2025 Prize.

THE MODERATOR

 

Sara Marinelli is a San Francisco–based writer who grew up in Naples, Italy. Her writing in English is published in Chicago Quarterly Review, ZYZZYVA online, New American Writing, and Blue Mesa Review; her work in Italian appears in Nazione Indiana, Leggendaria, Alias. A recipient of the 2024–2025 Brown-Handler residency at the San Francisco Public Library, Sara is a Teaching Artist at the San Francisco Opera and an award-winning educator at the University of San Francisco, where she teaches Comparative Literature and Creative Writing.
